Have you ever dreamed of getting married at a wedding venue where a celebrity was married? In the case of Old Wide Awake Plantation, Reese Witherspoon got married here! This venue is as southern as they come and is truly stunning, so I can understand why she chose it for her Charleston wedding!
This wedding venue is a hidden gem, and more people need to know about this spectacular venue! After you read all the fantastic things this venue offers and see the photos, you will fall in love! Since its opening in 1991, this location has undergone several updates, including a travertine patio and a two-story porch.
This Charleston wedding venue welcomes you with a tree-lined entrance. Spanish moss hangs from the trees, already setting a romantic and whimsical feel to your wedding. Once all of your guests arrive, and everyone enjoys the company, it feels like an intimate gathering. You will have a quiet celebration without any hustle and bustle. No traffic or other events will be taking place, and it will just be you and your guests. Parking is super easy and convenient as well.
Old Wide Awake Plantation can host up to 250 guests for your indoor or outdoor event space. In the main house, two getting-ready suites make it super convenient on the morning of your wedding! The bridal suite has the CUTEST floral wallpaper!! I love photographing getting ready photos in front of this wall because these photos always look so good.
The beautiful wrap-around covered porch is stylish and welcoming for many things on your big day. It’s also an excellent location for first looks in the morning when you can pop a bottle of champagne before slipping into your dress.
Wedding ceremonies can be held on the moss-covered front steps of the home. With the grand white house, wrap-around porch, and moss-covered steps, it truly is a romantic southern vibe. Alternatively, you can hold your ceremony at a nearby park, which will provide you with a water view during your ceremony; however, this will add an additional cost. I suggest having wedding portraits done at this location, but be sure to have a golf cart handy! Take a look at Ashley and Dan’s engagement photos to see what a beautiful location it is!
Your guests will enjoy a cocktail hour after the ceremony on the shaded covered porch, or they can soak up the sun around the property. The gorgeous outdoor ambiance includes Lowcountry vibes, a water view, and lovely trees that the sun fades behind.
If you choose to have your Charleston wedding reception outside, you can have it either on the lawn or under a tent. Snyder Events handle rentals for tented wedding receptions. It’s hard to go wrong with either a tented or open-air lawn reception.
Old Wide Awake offers several amenities as part of the rental fee for weddings. You’ll receive all-day access to the house, the grounds, two suites to get ready in, an event manager, a parking attendant, and space for 250 guests.
One thing to remember when planning a wedding is the month and day you want to get married. Charleston weddings are at their peak from March to June and September to November. Typically, peak season months are more expensive than off-peak seasons!
