I’m a Charleston based wedding photographer but I absolutely love to travel! I create timeless, joyful & tangible memories for my clients.
Hi, I'm Emma
In the heart of historic Charleston, you’ll find The Gadsden House, a testament to timeless charm and modern luxury, making it one of my favorite wedding venues. With its harmonious fusion of historic character, modern amenities, and contemporary elegance, this Charleston wedding venue provides a captivating backdrop for couples seeking a truly enchanting wedding day. From the lush courtyard gardens adorned with magnolias, crepe myrtles, and palm trees to the intimate urban oasis it creates. The Gadsden House is a unique haven that transports you away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Charleston. I can’t wait for you to read all about how fascinating a Gadsden House wedding can be!

The venue is at 38 Alexander Street and accessible through private gates. This downtown location ensures easy access to many hotels and Airbnbs within a 10-minute walk. Most guests opt for a stroll or arrange rides through Uber or Lyft for smooth transportation.
This venue offers a seamless experience encompassing every wedding element, from getting ready to the ceremony and reception. The exceptional staff ensures smooth coordination, making it a top-notch Charleston wedding venue. Not to mention that personalization takes center stage when you plan a wedding here. The venue allows you to customize everything from the tables and chairs to the linens to create a unique wedding style.
Whether you envision an outdoor ceremony amidst the courtyard gardens or an indoor exchange of vows in the elegant parlor rooms, The Gadsden House accommodates your preferences, and both ceremony options are beautiful. Scheduled on-site rehearsal ensures that your ceremony unfolds flawlessly.
The Gadsden House venue rental gives you access to the property, including getting-ready suites starting at 9:30 am. A third-party vendor must provide tables, chairs, linens, glassware, tenting, and china, as The Gadsden House does not supply them.
The number of guests will vary depending on what spaces you want to utilize for your wedding day. Outdoor ceremonies can accommodate 180 guests, compared to indoor ceremonies, which can hold only 80 people. If you desire a larger reception, you can use both indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing up to 250 guests.
Lucky for you, they provide in-house catering, which means you have to find one less vendor. The in-house catering boasts locally sourced cuisine, ensuring a memorable culinary experience. Choose from multi-course dinners to interactive food stations, complemented by a diverse bar service selection.
One of the most challenging parts of wedding planning is finding your vendors. When you book The Gadsden House as your Charleston wedding venue, you receive a list of trusted vendors making your life much easier!
Metered parking spaces and city garages are available but incur a fee and are first come, first serve. Whether arranging transportation for guests or relying on nearby accommodations, accessing the venue is convenient.
This venue provides exquisite on-site getting-ready suites. These rooms offer natural light, providing an ideal preparation space for the wedding party, not to mention that these rooms make for some beautiful portraits when you’re all ready for the big day!
Choosing a wedding planner from The Gadsden Houses’ list of preferred planners ensures that you have a cohesive planning process. Notable planners on the list that I love working with include Everything After the Ring and MOD Events.
While the courtyard gardens are accessible, a chair lift facilitates movement from the gardens to the first floor. However, the second and third floors are not handicap accessible.
Schedule in-person visits or opt for a virtual tour by calling 843-737-4281 to book your appointment. I suggest taking a tour to get a feeling for what the venue is like.
To secure your wedding date, you must sign a venue rental contract and pay the venue rental fee in full. Additional service payments follow a designated schedule.
The cost of getting married here will vary based on the day and month. Peak season Saturday weddings cost $7,500, Fridays are $6,500 and Sundays are $5,500. Lower rates are available in January, February, and December. You’ll get more of an accurate quote when you take a tour.
You can have various locations for your wedding photos when you get married at The Gadsden House. Not only are there picturesque locations within the venue, but also around it all within walking distance. There’s no need for transportation to other locations around Charleston! Take a look at some of my favorite Gadsden House wedding photos.
