Reflecting on Kali and Bjorn’s wedding at the Gadsden House Charleston brings me an instant smile. Their day was a beautiful celebration, overflowing with love and excitement. Kali and Bjorn met during their first year at Boston University and became best friends long before they realized they belonged together. After dating for several years, Bjorn proposed at Pitt Street Bridge with Kali’s family by their side.
The day started with capturing all the beautiful little details that make a wedding so personal. From the stunning invitations, the couple’s rings, and the delicate touches that tied everything together. Kali and her bridesmaids were a joy to photograph as they relaxed in adorable matching pink-and-white pinstripe pajamas on the Gadsden House’s covered porch. Kali wore a beautiful white slip with a robe that had intricate detailing, and the energy was infectious when she popped a bottle of champagne to kick off the celebrations.
The Gadsden House Charleston provides a picture-perfect space for bridal preparations. With its elegant rooms and natural light pouring in through the large windows, it was the perfect backdrop for Kali to get into her dress. Once she was ready, she shared a heartfelt first look with her father on the grand staircase. They both teared up, and it was one of the most touching moments of the day.
When Bjorn and his groomsmen arrived, they brought a wave of excitement with them. The guys decided to do some fun, “game day” inspired photos. They cheered him on as they walked into The Gadsden House, and then his groomsmen helped him get ready for the biggest day of his life. These photos were so much fun to capture.
Kali and Bjorn opted for a first look, which took place inside on the staircase of the Gadsden House. It was a breathtaking moment. Kali descended the stairs, and when she reached the landing, Bjorn turned around to see her for the first time in her wedding dress. The look on his face said it all—pure awe. They shared private vows, creating a sweet, intimate moment before the day’s festivities truly began.
The endless photo opportunities are among the best things about a wedding at the Gadsden House Charleston. The combination of lush greenery and beautiful architecture creates a stunning backdrop for portraits. Kali and Bjorn strolled around the block, taking in the beauty of the area as we captured some timeless shots. We also took advantage of the iconic steps of the Gadsden House for a group photo with the bridal party, something they were especially excited about. Their bridesmaids looked terrific in light pink dresses with varying textures, while the groomsmen wore light tan suits with white ties—such a classic look.
The ceremony occurred in the Gadsden House’s charming courtyard, under a delicate arch made of baby’s breath flowers, with candles in front. The light wooden chairs and simple decor perfectly complemented the setting, creating an understated elegance. Even though Kali and Bjorn had already shared a first look, the moment she walked down the aisle brought happy tears to both of them. You could feel the love in the air as they exchanged vows and lit a unity candle to symbolize their union. They ended the ceremony with a perfect dip kiss as they walked back up the aisle as newlyweds!
While the courtyard was transformed from ceremony to reception, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour inside the house and on the porches. The Gadsden House Charleston provides such a versatile space for mingling, and with the soft evening light filtering through, the atmosphere was magical. The reception decor was simple but stunning, with light pink napkins and custom oyster shells with their wedding date at each place setting.
Kali and Bjorn made their grand entrance and went straight into their first dance, setting the tone for the evening. They followed it up with heartfelt parent dances. They opted for an unannounced cake cutting, which was such a sweet and private moment, tucked away from the spotlight.
The dance floor livened up as the sun set and the evening took on a romantic glow. With string lights twinkling overhead and candles illuminating the tables, the ambiance at The Gadsden House Charleston was nothing short of magical. Kali and Bjorn’s friends and family filled the dance floor, celebrating late into the night.
The Gadsden House Charleston was the perfect setting for Kali and Bjorn’s wedding day. From the emotional first look to the electric reception, it was a day filled with beautiful moments that I feel so lucky to have captured. Kali and Bjorn, thank you for allowing me to be part of your incredible celebration. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness!
