Casey and Steven had one of the most beautiful and fun weddings. I was honored to be their photographer at Boone Hall Plantation. Their day started off getting ready at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, which was endless laughter. I loved that Casey took the opportunity to pull a prank on Steven by icing him; when she had her gift, she got him delivered to his hotel room.
I share this story because it is one of the many reasons I loved working with Casey and Steven. These two know how to have fun, are laid back, and have endless amounts of love for one another. I have said it before, and I will repeat it, being an Emma Lili Couple, one of the only requirements is to be madly in love and never stop being playful with each other.
Planning a wedding during a pandemic is not easy, but Casey did not seem to sweat over it at all. She continued to focus on the most important part, which was marrying her best friend and being with friends and family to celebrate, and oh did they celebrate. I loved all the details that Casey meticulously picked out, from custom invites to silk ribbon with custom calligraphy for her pieces. The day’s colors were bright and gorgeous, which was indeed the perfect color scheme for a Charleston summer wedding.
Before the ceremony, an unexpected rainstorm hit, and we waited it out, but that did not dampen the day’s mood, not one bit. Casey and her girls took shelter at the Cotton Dock and did not waste a minute being upset; instead, they had a few shots and maintained a festive spirit as they laughed and waited for the rain to subside.
Their ceremony was short and sweet and perfect. I loved that Casey and Steven mixed wine as their unity ceremony and, once pronounced, husband and wife shared the most precious first kiss. Casey and Steven had everyone’s hearts smiling when Steven, being the gentlemen he is, swept Casey off her feet to carry her to where we would be taking portraits to keep her off the wet grass.
After we wrapped up family formals and the full bridal party, Casey, Steven, and I explored the property at Boone Hall, capturing their first portraits as husband and wife. I seriously could have spent all day taking their photos; their love for one another brings a smile to your face, and might I add, they cannot take a bad picture if they tried. However, we did have to end our portrait time so the two could enter their reception and celebrate with their friends and family.
Before everyone sat down to enjoy the most delicious pizza served from the most adorable truck ever, Casey’s Grandfather shared a speech. Everyone was laughing and then crying and laughing again; it was indeed the sweetest. Casey and Steven also had the most adorable first dance, followed by Casey dancing with her Father. Later in the evening, Casey also surprised her Grandfather with a dance, and it melted everyone’s heart.
Their day and night was indeed a perfect event that I cannot be more blessed to have the honor of capturing, so without further ado, I am delighted to share a few of my favorite images from their unforgettable day!
