A fun-filled, beautiful summer day got everyone together for Cecilia and Justin’s Sea Island Yacht Club Wedding!
These two cuties met after college, as they both were living in the same city. They can thank a fun intramural kickball team for finding one another! Justin pulled off a huge surprise proposal. They were visiting the College of Charleston, and Cecilia had no idea he even had a ring bought! Coincidentally, her parents were also in town that weekend, and little did she know that his parents had also come into town. They were all able to celebrate this big moment together!
On their wedding day, they were both so laid-back and went with the flow of the day! It was delightful seeing them really enjoy themselves and simply soak in each and every moment. To start the day out, Justin had requested some fun game day photos with his groomsmen. Thanks to Justin AND his groomsmen, who seemed so engrossed in the photos, these turned out exactly as I had hoped. Of course, Cecilia and her girls had to have their own fun photos! As they wore matching pajamas, she popped a bottle of champagne for each of them, and they each had a sip.
As it was a summer wedding on Wadmalaw Island, you would expect it to be hot. Thankfully, it was a perfect temperature! We had a light rain shower that popped up while taking photos and before the ceremony. As Charleston wedding photographers are used to the summer showers, it was easy to develop a new game plan! I’m so glad that not only Cecilia and Justin and the wedding party had faith in me. We quickly ran through all the photos we needed to, and then the rain began.
While they had planned on having their wedding ceremony facing the water, plans had to change due to the long-lasting rain. The ceremony was moved under the porch, which was still beautiful! A string quartet played elegantly in the background.
Cecilia’s family traveled in from out of the country, so it was wonderful to see everyone together! The rain eventually let up, turning into a perfect summer evening. I loved how they utilized the natural beauty of the Lowcountry by keeping their decor simple and letting nature be the main focus! For dinner, they had a traditional southern boil. It was perfectly fitting since their wedding venue was right off the water. Everyone enjoyed celebrating the newlyweds and covering them with love the whole night. It was such a relaxing evening, but Steven Darby was the DJ, and he brought the party! He is one of the best Charleston DJs out there. He actually plays the piano along with the music that he is playing, which is really cool!
I can’t thank Michael with Charleston Wedding Planner enough for sending us this referral! This wedding day was a blast to capture. Not only did we get amazing photos, but we also provided video coverage! Check out their Charleston wedding video here!
