If you’re planning an intimate wedding in the heart of downtown Charleston, The Parsonage Charleston is such a beautiful venue to consider. Tucked away in the historic Ansonborough neighborhood, this charming pink home feels like a hidden gem right in the middle of the city. Once you step through the gate and into the courtyard, you’re surrounded by a quiet, intimate space that feels completely separate from the busy streets just outside. For couples coming to Charleston to celebrate with only their closest family and friends, The Parsonage offers such a special setting for a smaller wedding day.
One of the things I love most about this venue is that it really embraces the intimacy of a smaller celebration. You can get ready inside the historic home, have your ceremony in the courtyard, enjoy dinner outside with everyone you love, and then step onto the streets of Charleston for portraits. Everything you need for a beautiful wedding day is right there!

The Parsonage at St. Johannes is located at 50 Hasell Street in Charleston’s historic Ansonborough neighborhood. From the street, it has so many of the details you picture when you think about Charleston. The light pink exterior, wrought iron fencing, and double piazzas give the home that classic Charleston charm before you even step through the gate.
And as a Charleston wedding photographer, I have to mention the great location! Being downtown means we can step outside for portraits and immediately have cobblestone streets, colorful historic homes, iron gates, ivy, and so many other classic Charleston backdrops to work with.

The courtyard tucked behind The Parsonage creates a beautiful setting for your ceremony. A small fountain set against the historic architecture creates a natural focal point for the ceremony.
At a wedding I recently photographed here, the couple added floral arrangements around the fountain, bringing beautiful color and texture to the courtyard. Because the ceremony space is more intimate, you don’t need much décor to make it feel special. A few thoughtfully placed florals can enhance the space while still letting the courtyard’s natural charm shine through.
After the ceremony, the outdoor space can transition into your reception. One of my favorite setups is a single long dinner table where you and your guests can all sit together. There’s something so special about looking down the table and seeing your closest family and friends gathered together to celebrate your marriage. It feels intimate, relaxed, and perfect for an al fresco Charleston dinner.

You aren’t limited to one long table, though. You can use separate tables throughout the courtyard, or even incorporate the piazza into your reception setup.
The piazza is also a beautiful spot for a sweetheart table. It gives you a chance to enjoy dinner together while still overlooking your family and friends celebrating in the courtyard below. You get a little space to yourselves without feeling removed from the reception.

Another bonus of getting married at The Parsonage Charleston is being able to get ready right at the venue. You’ll have access to rooms inside the historic home for you, your family, or your wedding party to use before the ceremony.
An on-site getting-ready space makes the start of your wedding day much easier. You don’t have to coordinate transportation from a hotel or Airbnb, worry about Charleston traffic, or build extra travel time into your photography timeline. Once you’re ready, your ceremony is just steps away.
The home’s interior also offers a beautiful setting for those early photos. Details like chandeliers, antique fixtures, mirrors, and the character of the historic rooms add interest to getting-ready photos.
Once everyone is ready, we can also use the piazzas and surrounding downtown streets for first looks and portraits.

The Parsonage does not provide its own catering or bar services, so you’ll need to hire those vendors separately.
An on-site catering kitchen and separate load-in area make things much more convenient for your catering team. Since you’re bringing in your own vendors, you’ll also have more freedom to choose food and drinks that fit the type of celebration you’re planning.
For an intimate wedding, I especially love the idea of making dinner part of the experience rather than simply another item on the timeline. Whether you choose a formal plated meal or something more relaxed, gathering around the table in the courtyard can be one of those moments when everyone gets to slow down and enjoy being together.
Wedding venue pricing can vary depending on your date, event details, guest count, and exactly what you need for your celebration. For the most accurate information about The Parsonage wedding cost, I recommend contacting the venue directly and requesting a custom quote based on your wedding plans.
You’ll also want to ask exactly what is included with your venue rental so you can plan for any additional rentals or vendors you may need.

If having your rehearsal at The Parsonage is important to you, ask about it when inquiring or touring the venue. Availability may depend on whether another event is taking place before your wedding day.
Ask what is included with your venue rental and what you’ll need to bring separately. Depending on what is provided, you may need rentals for things like tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and other reception details.
While choosing your own rentals can mean a little more planning, it also gives you more freedom in your wedding design. Instead of working around items that automatically come with a venue, you can choose pieces that actually fit the look and feel you want.
I highly recommend it! Especially when you’re bringing in rentals, catering, florals, and other vendors to create your wedding from the ground up, having a planner or coordinator makes everything so much easier.
They can handle all of those behind-the-scenes details while you get to enjoy your wedding day. And because there are so many ways to personalize this space, a great planner can help bring everything together in a way that feels completely like you.

A smaller wedding doesn’t mean you have to simplify everything about your day. In fact, fewer guests can let you be even more intentional with the experience you’re creating.
That could mean filling your ceremony with florals, creating an incredible tablescape for dinner, choosing a menu you’re excited about, or spending more time celebrating with each guest. You can still go all out on the details that matter to you while keeping the guest list intimate.
That’s what makes The Parsonage Charleston such a fun venue for a smaller wedding. You have the historic Charleston home, the courtyard, the piazzas, and downtown Charleston all within reach. Your entire day can happen in one place, but we can still create so much variety throughout your photos.
And there’s something really special about ending your ceremony and sitting down for dinner at one table surrounded by the people you love most. It turns your wedding into more than a beautiful event. It feels like an intimate celebration where you actually have time to be present with everyone who came to Charleston to celebrate with you.

If you’re planning a wedding at The Parsonage Charleston, I’d love to photograph it! Intimate wedding days are so much fun to capture because there’s time to focus on all of the little moments happening throughout the day, from getting ready inside the historic home to portraits around downtown Charleston and dinner and dancing with your favorite people in the courtyard.
My goal is always to capture the joy of your wedding day while giving you an experience that feels comfortable and true to you. If The Parsonage sounds like the perfect place for your Charleston wedding, I’d love to hear what you’re planning. Reach out through my contact form to learn more about working together!
